Lancetti

Italy · Rome, from 1961

Lancetti is the Roman fashion house of Pino Lancetti, the "tailor painter", which made its debut at Florence's Palazzo Pitti in 1961.

The short answer

Pino Lancetti came from Bastia Umbra, in Umbria, and worked from an atelier in Rome. In 1961 he showed his first collection in the Sala Bianca of Palazzo Pitti in Florence. The press called him the "tailor painter" for collections drawn from painters and art movements. Printed fabrics and, from the 1980s, embroidery became the house's signatures, and the house records a 1986 collection dedicated to Picasso shown at Villa Medici in Rome. Pino Lancetti died in Rome in 2007.

Buying pre-ownedHow to read one

Read the piece,
not the name.

With a pre-owned Lancetti coat, read the composition label first: the wool content decides warmth and drape. If it has a fur collar, look at the skins at the edges and the stitching where the collar meets the coat. Check the lining and the buttonholes, and compare flat measurements with a coat that already fits you. Our Cashmere Story explains what good wool and cashmere feel like.
